We love working on our math zones

The kindergartens were having a fabulous time exploring their thinking during "math zones."

Check out the pictures!

The memory game is one of the children's favourite activities.

So much planning goes into the "marble run" activity. I love to see them collaborating.

New tools from Teacher's Convention

Last week at the Teacher's Convention, I found some exciting, new tools to use in our classroom.
Today we used both the alphabet dice and the 12-sided number dice in our literacy and math centres.
We also worked on some new number puzzles.
Check out the pictures!

Decorating Valentine cookies!

Today we are celebrating Valentine's Day. While we were doing our Valentine math zones, one of the zones was cookie decorating!  We sure did have a "sweet" time!

Check out the pictures. Mrs. Yanke and Mrs. Ashworth even dropped in for a cookie.

Valentine candy heart graphing

Yesterday the Kindergartens learned a little bit about graphing. They each got a small amount of candy hearts and had to graph them according to colour (they used their super sorting skills!)
We all put the white hearts in the purple category, because there were no purple candy hearts.

Check it out!

Community Helpers

On Friday, we started our unit on Community Helpers. We listened to this song:

We talked about all the different jobs we could do when we grow up. We learned that most of us will have many different jobs during our lifetime. The children thought it was pretty funny that I have been a clown, a secretary, a delivery person, a store clerk, a rent-a-car agent...all before becoming a mother and a teacher.

We decorated our Community Helpers duotangs with pictures of jobs we might like to do when we grow up, then I asked the children which job they thought was the most important. I told them there are no wrong answers, you just have to explain your thinking. They did a terrific job of explaining their thinking and were respectful of other children's opinions. Here is the result:
